Festive kick-off "Book start in childcare" at Rollebol

On January 24, 2018, Alderman Elly Konijn of education and childcare read out the picture book of the year at the Rollebol daycare. This was the festive kick-off of the “BookStart in childcare” project. A partnership has been signed by the Kennemerwaard library and Rollebol children's centers. Jan Kallenbach on behalf of Kennemerwaard and Raymond Berghuijs, director of Rollebol children's centers, were congratulated by Elly Konijn with this great initiative. The children listened breathlessly as Elly read the fun story from the picture book of the year “Ssst! The sleeping tiger is sleeping”. And the alderman can do that perfectly!

The younger it is started, the more effect it has. Of toddlers who are read to regularly, 70% have sufficient vocabulary for a good start at primary school.

With BoekStart in de Kinderopvang, the Kennemerwaard Library, in collaboration with Rollebol childcare centers, is creating a rich and stimulating reading environment for young children aged 0-4 years. There is now an attractive reading area with a large collection of suitable books. The pedagogical employees of Rollebol child centers have received training in interactive reading from youth specialists from the Library and a reading coordinator is trained per location. We receive support in drawing up and implementing the reading (aloud) policy and the interpretation of parental participation around this theme. The expertise of pedagogical staff is increased. At each childcare location, a pedagogical employee is trained by the Library as a reading aloud coordinator. A number of pedagogical employees receive practical training on everything they need to know about reading aloud. Parents are involved, so that more is read at home and they become familiar with the possibilities of the library. Reading aloud is thus given a permanent place in childcare by including a reading plan in the policy. There is collaboration with partners in a reading promotion network.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Some of the pedagogical employees of Rollebol childcare centers have now been trained to reading coordinator. With a reading coordinator at a nursery, playgroup or pre-school, the reading policy is well secured. The reading coordinator ensures that reading is given a structural place within policy and implementation in childcare. This concerns: Riksen-Walraven development areas, reading environment, types of books, digital picture books, parent involvement, social card reading-promoting activities and reading plan.
